Hawai'i Community College's Alpha Psi Epsilon Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society hosted the Fall 2019 Pacific Regional Leadership and Honors Conference on October 5 and 6, 2019. Phi Theta Kappa students and advisors from Hawai‘i CC, Honolulu CC, Kapi‘olani CC, Kaua‘i CC, Leeward CC, and Waipahu High School’s Early College program participated in an informative, stimulating, and fun-filled weekend.

Huaka'i to Kahoʻolawe Gives Students Rich Experience

By Drew Kapp, Hawai'i CC Geography Instructor – In August 2019 a hui, a group, of our current and former students traveled to the island of Kahoʻolawe and were hosted by Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana. Months earlier Environmental Science/Botany lecturer Allie Atkins and I had begun the process of orienting the students to the experience, and we met several times over the summer, to prepare for the journey, bond as a hui, review protocols, share research about Kahoʻolawe, and engage in deep discussions around aloha ʻāina. The students chose to give themselves the name Kahoʻiwai

Hawai'i CC Hosts Conference Devoted to Advancing the Needs of Filipino Students

Hawaiʻi Community College hosted the 31st University of Hawai’i system-wide Pamantasan conference in Hilo on Friday, October 18. First established more than 30 years ago, the UH Pamantasan Council consists of administrators, faculty, staff and students in the UH system committed to addressing the needs of Filipino students in Hawai’i.
