HAWAI'I CC AND PISCES LAUNCH NEW CREDIT-BASED INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems (PISCES) – a state-funded aerospace agency – in partnership with Hawai‘i Community College has launched a new credit-based internship program to offer college students high-tech learning opportunities while earning classroom credit.

The collaborative program will provide hands-on experience in computer programming and robotics work to develop Hawai‘i’s skilled labor workforce.

FIRST EVER SUMMER ENGINEERING ACADEMY SPARKS INTEREST IN ENGINEERING FIELDS

At Hawai‘i Community College’s six-week Summer Engineering Academy, middle and high school students learned to think and solve problems like engineers — while also having fun.

In the process, they tackled subjects like computer programming, electronics, and architecture, which sound complex and intimidating even to many adults. But the program is designed to demystify these subjects through hands-on projects like creating Rube Goldberg machines, light and sound meters, and self-driving model cars.

STUDENT HEALTH AIDES RECEIVE SCHOOL HEALTH AIDE LEVEL II CERTIFICATES

Student Health Aides received their School Health Aide Level II Certificates at a ceremony on August 3, 2017.  The SHA Level II Certificates is a curriculum from Kapi'olani Community College.  Classes were also held at Ka'u High School and Kohala High School via Polycom.  Pictured with the students are Public Health Nurses and Instructors for the SHA Level II class.

HAWAI'I CC ANNOUNCES SPRING 2017 DEAN'S LIST

Hawai‘i Community College proudly releases the names of the following students who have achieved Dean’s List honors for the Spring 2017 semester.  The Dean’s List requires students to have completed 12 or more credits for a letter grade achieving a grade point average of at least 3.5 (B+) for the semester.  The attached 284 students have attained this distinction.  Please join us in congratulating them!

ALUMNI PROFILES: AT HAWAI'I CC, BRUCE TORRES FISCHER PURSUED A LIFELONG DREAM AND DISCOVERED A NEW PASSION

Bruce Torres Fischer remembers from a young age loving the Discovery Channel, the show Crocodile Hunter, being outside, looking at animals and having a general appreciation of nature.

 “It’s been a passion of mine since I was little,” Bruce said. “I want to be a biologist and want to work in conservation.”

The Natural Science program at Hawai‘i Community College has helped Bruce pursue that passion.

WOMEN IN TRANSITION: MOVING FORWARD

Did you ever think about going back to school or work or just embarking on a different life transition? 

At a recent event at the Hawai‘i Community College – Pālamanui campus, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Kona Branch, in partnership with the University Center - West Hawai’i, sponsored a workshop titled: “Women in Transition: Moving Forward” prepared many women making that life changing transition a successful one.

PĀLAMANUI EARNS LEED PLATINUM CERTIFICATION FOR SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS DESIGN

The Hawai‘i Community College – Pālamanui campus has earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council, the highest rating possible in the sustainable building program.
