For Students

The Sustainability Academic Subject Certificate (ASC-LBRT-SUSI) supports efforts to improve environmental stewardship and sustainability. It is interdisciplinary and integrates sustainability themes and practices across the Hawai‘i Community College curriculum, drawing from Hawaiian Studies, Natural Science, Social Science and other disciplines.

The ASC encompasses Hawaiʻiʻs geography, traditional sustainable practices, climate change mitigation and science, aloha ʻāina, and more. It provides students with the equivalent of a minor in Sustainability while meeting their general education requirements, and can be earned alongside any degree program.

Achieving the Academic Subject Certificate in Sustainability can connect students to community-oriented and green career opportunities and research. It can also prepare them for four-year degree programs related to sustainability at UH and beyond.
