The ceremony is an opportunity to join with the community in presenting awards that recognize the exceptional performance and academic achievements of our students. HAWAI'I CC STUDENT AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Hawai‘i Community College student Sean Kirkpatrick has received the prestigious University of Hawai‘i Presidential Scholarship award that is given each year to students with a record of outstanding academic achievement.

SOLEMSAAS APPOINTED HAWAIʻI COMMUNITY COLLEGE CHANCELLOR

At a meeting on April 21 on Oʻahu, the Board of Regents unanimously approved the appointment of Rachel Solemsaas as chancellor of Hawaiʻi Community College. Her appointment begins on July 1, 2016.

PHI THETA KAPPA STUDENTS RECEIVE AWARDS AT CONVENTION

Hawai‘i Community College’s Alpha Psi Epsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society recently attended the Pacific Regional Convention held at Leeward Community College where members received awards for service completed in the 2015 calendar year. The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs, particularly community colleges and junior colleges.

Student leaders Desiree DeCanto-Gardner, Nicholas Eisen, Sean Kirkpatrick, Piadora Mana and Candace Wharton received the 2016 Distinguished Chapter Officer Team award.

STUDENTS BUILD HOUSE FOR NATIVE HAWAIIAN FAMILY THROUGH 'MODEL HOME PROJECT'

During a dedication ceremony in Hilo, a Native Hawaiian family received the keys to a new home that was custom built from the ground up by Hawai‘i Community College students during the past academic year.

The college, the family, and community partners dedicated the home in the Keaukaha area of Hilo on Thursday, May 12.

COLLEGE PROGRAMS ON DISPLAY DURING 3RD ANNUAL HAWAI'I COMMUNITY COLLEGE DAY

On February 26, 2016, Hawai‘i Community College hosted dignitaries and middle and high school students at the Manono campus in Hilo for the 3rd Annual Hawai'i CC Day.

The day will begin with a kīpaepae welina, and visitors then spent time at the interactive exhibits presented by the college’s academic programs and student services.

COMMUNITY CELEBRATES OPENING OF HAWAI‘I CC – PĀLAMANUI DURING TWO DAYS OF EVENTS

Hawai‘i Community College – Pālamanui hosted events on Friday, February 26 and Saturday, February 27 to celebrate the opening of the new campus in West Hawai‘i.

The college conducted a Moku Ka Piko ceremony on Friday to bless the campus. Moku Ka Piko is a traditional ceremony that blesses and dedicates a newly constructed home. It literally means “to sever the umbilical cord” as the opening of a new home is likened to the birth of a child. The ceremony acknowledged Hawai‘i CC – Pālamanui as the new home for higher education in West Hawai‘i.

FREE, FLEXIBLE ONLINE TUTORING AVAILABLE FOR HAWAI‘I CC STUDENTS

Free online tutoring is available for Hawai‘i Community College students who want help with math, science or writing. Offered through the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s Online Learning Academy(OLA), the tutoring sessions are available during the day or after normal business hours.

Students can log into OLA’s online tutoring room as late as 10 p.m. and even on the weekends. The free one-on-one tutoring sessions use easy audio and text chat tools as well as interactive white board tools for drawing and writing.

LIVE MUSIC, FOOD AND MORE AT THE PĀLAMANUI OPEN HOUSE & GRAND OPENING CELEBRATION ON SATURDAY, FEB. 27

Hawai‘i Community College – Pālamanui is pleased to announce that it will host an Open House and Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new campus in North Kona. “Pālamanui opened for classes in August 2015, and now we are excited to welcome the community to the campus for a fun and celebratory event,” said Dr. Kenneth “Marty” Fletcher, the Director of Hawai‘i CC – Pālamanui. “Residents of West Hawai‘i worked very hard to turn the vision of this campus into a reality. We look forward to introducing them to their new home for higher education.”
