INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY GRADUATE LANDS 'DREAM' JOB WORKING FOR OBSERVATORY

Eric Dela Rosa, a graduate of the Hawai'i Community College Information Technology program, recently was hired as a system administrator for the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) in Waimea. In his new role, Dela Rosa will help support and maintain the information technology infrastructure of the telescope’s headquarters and summit, as well as provide support for the staff and guests, according to an article in West Hawaii Today.

"For 10 years, I’ve been waiting for my dream opportunity and I was lucky enough to land it this year," Dela Rosa told the newspaper. "I know from the bottom of my heart this is where I belong and where I’m going to retire.”

Born in Honokaʻa, Dela Rosa graduated from Hawai'i CC in 2004, and for the past several years he has served as the technology director at the Parker School.

He has described his time at Hawai'i CC as a positive and powerful experience that helped him prepare for a successful career.

“Attending Hawai'i Community College was the most important and best step I have ever taken to better my future," Dela Rosa said. "My experience at Hawai‘i CC was by far one of the best experiences of my life. Hawai‘i CC was very accommodating to my schedule, and it is definitely nice to have a college that was affordable and nearby.”
