Kona auto mechanics students graduate after participating in unique pilot program

Eight Hawai‘i Community College Automotive Mechanics Technology students took the fast lane to graduation as members of an innovative pilot program — the first of its kind in the State of Hawai‘i.

Just one year after high school, these students graduated from the Hawai‘i Community College - Pālamanui campus in Kona on May 14 with Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees in Automotive Mechanics Technology (AMT).

Sweet Treat: Culinary Students Learn the Art of Patisserie at Well-Known Local Bakery

Hawai‘i Community College Culinary Arts students in a patisserie class are getting real-world experience this year during an internship at Short N Sweet Bakery & Cafe in Hilo. 

Sydirah Aricayos was one of three Culinary Arts students on a recent morning making sweet bread rolls, frosting cakes and making cookies at the bustling bakery. 

“I like learning the different processes for how they do things,” said Aricayos. “It’s a good blend of the familiar and the unfamiliar.” 

Fall 2021 Dean's List Announced

Hawai‘i Community College proudly releases the names of the following students who have achieved Dean’s List honors for the Fall 2021 semester. The Dean’s List requires students to have completed 12 or more credits for a letter grade achieving a grade point average of at least 3.5 (B+) for the semester. The following 249 students have attained this distinction.  Please join us in congratulating them!

Celebrate Lunar New Year!

Celebrate Lunar New Year with Hawai'i Community College's International Education Committee.

The activities include a Coffee and Tea Party on Tuesday, Feb. 1 from 9-11 a.m. at the Manono Campus in Hilo, Building 381, Room 10.

There will also be a Coffee and Tea Party at the Hawai'i Community College - Palamanui campus in Kona on Thursday, February 3, 8-11 a.m. near the Culinary Arts classrooms.

English lecturer publishes new novel The Blood of Bones

Hawai‘i Community College English lecturer Nathan McQueen has a new novel out this month that is described as a “mythic, coming-of-age tale that speaks to the struggles of humanity across cultural boundaries.” 

Titled The Blood of Bones, the novel’s main character is Tesfahun, a boy who is a member of an ancient tribe in Ethiopia “untouched by modern civilization.”

Pālamanui Campus Preserve will be an 'outdoor laboratory' and help conserve endangered dryland forest

Hawai‘i Community College – Pālamanui is gaining a 706-acre forest preserve next door to campus that will be an important outdoor learning area for students and the community.
