- Insuring Meaning: Upon entry, the Hawaiʻi CC First Year Experience program is designed to help with soft skills for learner success through High Engagement and the Kaʻao Model. This includes knowledge of what resources and tools are available to assist you during your academic journey. This includes (but not limited to) New Student Orientation and Student Success Conference to prepare you for stepping into college.
- Committed Campus Support: For many of you who are first-time college attendees, our campus is committed to providing support as well as a safe place to grow in your journey. This is through peer mentoring and tutoring services, financial literacy empowerment, additional learning opportunities outside of the classroom, etc. First-time college students are encouraged to enroll in two of our First Year (FY) designated classes as well as participating and seeking out services from FYE trained programs and resource centers. (The Learning Center and Paepae ʻŌhua Native Hawaiian Student Success Center)
- Authoring Your Narrative: Challenges in life and in college can advance or terminate a journey. Our FYE program is designed to help with reflecting on oneʻs goals, what is your vision for your life and pushing past the challenges that may arise. This is your journey, we are here to provide wrap around services for in and out of the classroom. Celebrating Your Journey: The First Year Experience is only the beginning for establishing a foundation for personal transformation. Hawaiʻi CC is an indigenous servings campus here to honor and celebrate the unique communities and families you come from. You are at the forefront of your college experience, welcome to the helm of your journey.
The Learning Center and Paepae ʻŌhua Native Hawaiian Student Success Center are also available to assist you with your First Year Experience.
