Evaluation Procedures for Writing Intensive Courses

The WICC reviews WI courses for the following purposes:

  1. Evaluate the effectiveness of the writing intensive component of each WI course.
  2. Determine whether each course on the WI Active List meets the Hawai`i CC Writing intensive Guidelines to maintain its continued status on the Active List.
  3. Improve the course before it is offered again.
  4. Provide information for an annual report to the UH System-wide Standing Committee on Writing Communication about the effectiveness of the WI program on our campus.

Evaluation Procedures

  1. Student survey results are collected (via electronic survey sent out by instructors) during Weeks 14-16. Student survey results are shared with instructor after final grades are submitted.
  2. Shortly after final grades are due, instructors submit to the WI Coordinator (electronically or in print):
    • A completed instructor survey.
    • Current course syllabus and writing assignments (As of Spring 2018, current syllabi and assignments are requested only if changes were made to the course that affect the WI elements of the course).
