Professional Licensing Disclosures for the Certificate of Achievement in Practical Nursing Program

The Hawai‘i Community College (Hawai‘i CC) Certificate of Achievement in Practical Nursing (CA-PRCN) Program is approved by the Hawai'i State Board of Nursing, and is designed to meet the education requirements for licensure/certification in Hawai‘i as well as preparing students to apply for the appropriate national NCLEX licensure exam.

The table below indicates one of three options regarding program licensure for the CA_PRCN program: the program meets the education requirements for licensure; the program does not meet the education requirements for licensure; or a determination has not been made as to whether the program meets the education requirements that lead to licensure. For these purposes, “states” include the District of Columbia and the US protectorates, as defined in 34 CFR §600.2.

Responsibility of Students

Students should review the specific academic requirements for the program in which they are enrolling, including those related to practicum/internship as well as pre-qualifications for licensure. Hawai‘i CC highly recommends that students contact the applicable licensure board(s) in their state of residence or in the state where they intend to obtain a license before beginning an academic program that results in licensure and prior to beginning any internship/practicum.

Relocating during the course of a program to another state may impact if the student can remain in the program, meet the state licensure requirements and/or continue to receive federal funding. Prior to considering relocation, Hawai‘i CC encourages students to research the requirements of the state to which they intend to relocate.

Licensure boards may require more than successful degree completion to obtain a license. Please be advised that state laws, regulations, and policies may change at any time. Changes in requirements can impact the program’s ability to meet educational requirements for licensure.

Hawai‘i CC endeavors to make a reasonable effort to determine student eligibility for licensure. However, due to the ever-changing nature of statues, rules, and regulations of the varying states/territories, the below list cannot be considered a guarantee for licensure. Students are strongly encouraged to contact their local state board of nursing for the most up to date eligibility requirements.

As a resource, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing posts board of nursing professional licensure requirements for all US states and jurisdictions. Contact the respective State Board of Nursing to verify.
