Hawaii Community College’s cybersecurity center details the programs of study related to cybersecurity, as well as providing resources to faculty, staff, students, and the community.
The cybersecurity center is applying to become officially designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has established this award for institutions that are helping to reduce threats to our national infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in cyber defense as well as providing the nation with a pipeline of qualified cybersecurity professionals.
The associate of science degree in information technology (AS-IT) is the main program of study in cyber defense. The degree has an embedded certificate (CO-ISA) with a cyber security focus, which can also be taken as a stand-alone degree. The overall program prepares students for taking industry certifications such as CompTia A+, Network+, and Security+.
