Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to describe the College’s final examinations policy for courses with a synchronous component. All completely asynchronous courses, final examinations are at the discretion of the Instructor.

Policy:

• Final examinations are a common assessment requirement in most courses.
• All such examinations are to be conducted during the final examination period specified in the HawCC Academic Calendar and Schedule of Classes, and all instructors should adhere to this schedule regardless of the modality.
• The instructor and/or academic discipline may determine to establish a student’s course grade based on the semester’s work and may elect to not give final examinations.
• No comprehensive examinations are allowed in the two weeks preceding the final examination (this does not apply to capstone projects, papers, and presentations) period for full-semester courses. Exceptions:
• Lab, Field Studies and other courses that meet once per week and have a Final exam required by the professor may have their final given during the final lab period that semester.
• If an individual student requests an exception due to extenuating circumstances, the instructor may reschedule the exam at their discretion.
• Other comprehensive projects and papers that are due can have deadlines during the final examination week.
