HawCC Writing Lab
Tutoring Policies and Procedures
Procedures
Upon entering The Learning Center (TLC), sign in at the reception desk.
Proceed to the Writing Desk and sign in on the Writing Desk Contact Sheet. The tutor will work with you as soon as (s)he is available.
When you see a tutor for a writing assignment, bring any written instructions that you have received from your instructor. This will enable the tutor and you to understand your assignment clearly.
Policies
The tutor's job is not to rewrite, proofread, or edit your paper.
The tutor is here to help you brainstorm as you generate ideas, guide you as you organize your paper, and serve as your audience.
If a tutor finds that you have multiple grammatical errors, (s)he will give you a brief explanation of the type of errors and ask you to go back and look for those errors and fix them.
Since the assignment is YOUR assignment, you will do all the writing. It is not the job of the tutor to dictate sentences to you.
It is also your responsibility to look up words and information from sources. The tutor can help guide you to appropriate sources.
If the tutor is busy, please look at our priority system, and the tutor will be with you as soon as possible.
