Purpose of AIMS and its use within the HawCC Reading
Program
The Alternative Instructional Management System for the Improvement of Reading Skills
(AIMS) is a series of reading skills activities used by reading
instructors at Hawai'i Community College for students enrolled in the school's
developmental reading courses. Implemented in the Reading Lab of the HawCC Learning
Center, AIMS Reading is an eclectic, competency-based, and
individualized program with tests and lessons for levels of reading ability ranging from
very easy to very difficult. AIMS was developed to supplement regular
instruction and to provide an extension of the classroom. For
