Our Helpful and Friendly Staff

Kekai: Aloha! I am a tutor here at The Learning Center and I really want to help you.  Writing can be frustrating and scary, but with a few tweaks and tips those essays won’t be so intimidating.  My major is linguistics and I will be graduating in the summer of 2018.  I speak Japanese fluently, so if you are from Japan and struggle with English, feel free to speak in your native tongue.

My name is Melissa, I am a senior pursuing a double major in political science and philosophy. I have tutored before in mathematics for the Upward Bound Program. In my free time I enjoy completing jigsaw puzzles, reading books, watching anime, and visiting new places.
Jaylen: Hello! I am no writing expert, but I do enjoy it, and I will do my best to help you through it! Writing can be fun, especially when you have someone else to talk to about it! I am actually a science major, so please feel free to see me about lab reports and research essays too!

Maria is a sophomore pursuing her Bachelors in English at UH Hilo. She has tutored English before to students who were English Language Learners as an Americorps Tutor back in her home island of Saipan. When she is not helping others with English, she can be found cuddled up reading a new book or even writing a new story.

Kalyan is TLC Ed. Specialist. She tutors in reading, writing and ESL as well as helps out all around the center.

Billie Jones is the writing area coordinator.
