Hawai‘i Community College English lecturer Nathan McQueen has a new novel out this month that is described as a “mythic, coming-of-age tale that speaks to the struggles of humanity across cultural boundaries.” 

Titled The Blood of Bones, the novel’s main character is Tesfahun, a boy who is a member of an ancient tribe in Ethiopia “untouched by modern civilization.”

Hawai‘i Community College – Pālamanui is gaining a 706-acre forest preserve next door to campus that will be an important outdoor learning area for students and the community.

Hawai‘i Community College staff will walk you through the scholarship application process and assist you with writing your personal statement. You can also learn about financial aid and scholarship resources and opportunities.

Hawai‘i Community College will host virtual workshops for prospective students who want to enroll for the Spring 2022 or Fall 2022 semesters. 

Join “Application Tuesdays” and get help completing the Hawai’i Community College online application. (Application deadline for Spring 2022 is December 15).

Hawai‘i Community College – Pālamanui helped serve the educational needs of the West Hawai‘i community this past summer and connected local middle and high school students to the college with several unique projects. If we are to succeed and fulfill our mission as a campus, it’s important to create genuine connections ­– which is all the more difficult during the pandemic, but more important than ever!

Hawai‘i Community College is offering a new opportunity for high school students to pursue college credentials and careers in the field of Early Childhood Education.

The new program is called the “Hilo Early Learning Career Pathway Project.” It will allow students at Hilo and Waiakea High Schools to earn a Certificate of Competence from Hawai‘i CC’s Early Childhood Education program while they are still in high school.

Hawai‘i Community College is offering a new Academic Subject Certificate (ASC) in Sustainability starting in the Fall 2021 semester that aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge to help address some of today’s biggest challenges.

John Nakata, a Kealakehe High School senior, was in the school’s automotive mechanics shop recently, reflecting on the time he’s spent with a cohort of fellow students the past two years, learning how to rebuild engines, take apart transmissions and other auto mechanics skills. 

“I’m going to miss this place, the environment, the people,” Nakata said.

Nakata is one of nine students completing a unique program that was a collaboration between Kealakehe High School and Hawai‘i Community College designed to place students on the fast track to automotive careers.
