Traditional Practice
The two-year Lawaiʻa A.A.S. provides students the knowledge of the technical aspects as well as the cultural practices of cultivation, harvesting, and protecting marine resources in either commercial ventures or for sustainable fishing practices.
Modern Skills
The Lawaiʻa A.A.S. program will develop the learner's skills in subsistence fishing.
Hands-On
Substantial course work will be in the field and students will be mentored by recognized practitioners.
Degree Objective
This degree aims to educate articulate, skilled, and culturally trained graduates of the Lawai`a degree who are knowledgeable and experienced in the cultivation, harvesting, marketing, and conservation of Hawai`i and the world’s fragile marine resources.
