COME AND GET IT!


Hawaii Community College has begun its food service to the public with a record breaking class of new students of the Culinary Arts, assisted by a strong, returning second year class, sharing their knowledge and experience.

The Manono Campus Cafeteria is now serving a menu that changes daily, and features international, local and campus favorites, affording the new students an introduction to a broad range of cooking techniques.

New this year is a vegetarian entrée choice, added to three other entrée choices. All entrees are served with soup, salad, fresh breads, veggies and starches. Several pastries made at the school Bake Shop are available each day. Also available are classic salads and sandwiches made to order.

The Ohana Corner Café, staffed by the Second Year students, opens Thursday, September 6th with a new breakfast and lunch menu featuring local produce and products. "Good to Go" Bentos and Musubi are available for that quick snack. Pastries fresh from the Bake Shop are also available.

Menu items are prepared "a la minute" –to order- on the Café’s open line. Soon, breakfast and lunch specials will be offered in addition to our printed menu selections.

Our kitchens have the support and products of Hamakua Springs Country Farms, Hamakua Mushrooms-Hawaii’s Gourmet Fungal Jungle, O’Keefe and Sons Bakery,

Hawaii Community College Agriculture Program, University of Hawaii’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, and the USDA Experimental Station. Lucky us!

Professor and Chef Allan Okuda invites the Campus Community and citizens of Hilo to enjoy these two restaurants, and support our student chefs. Assisted by Chef Instructor Sandy Barr and Kitchen Manager Deirdre Kent, this long standing, American Culinary Federation Accredited Food Service Program is producing the next generation of chefs for our island.

Cafeteria hours are 10:45 AM to 12:30 PM Tuesday through Friday. The Ohana Corner Café is open at 9:00 for breakfast through lunch until 12:30, Tuesday through Friday. Please join us.
